Research from the Urban Institute looking at survey data of people who are newly insured through March of this year finds that 90% are either below the federal poverty level or subsidy-eligible; most are enrolled in Medicaid; they are younger but more likely to report only fair or poor health and to have no regular source of health care.  All of these factors suggest health spending will be higher than projected.

Tennessee regulators are proposing that a patient who uses telemedicine first must have an in-person visit with the physician on the other end of the line.  The purported reason is to ensure use of a primary care doctor and building a solid relationship, but the rule would greatly frustrate the ability of telemedicine to provide better and more convenient access to patients and would raise costs.
