An analysis conducted for AHIP by The Menges Group finds that states that keep their Medicaid medical and drug benefits in the same plan as opposed to separating them have lower total drug spending.  The savings were about 14.6% per prescription or over $2 billion.

An article in JAMA finds that most uninsured adults eligible for the Medicaid expansion are healthier than the current Medicaid enrollees, but a significant cohort have uncontrolled chronic disease that may require significant medical services.

Avalere Health projects that Medicaid enrollment in private health plans will grow substantially, up 20% over last year and up by 38% from 2013 to 2016, as more states push most or all of their Medicaid eligibles into private plans and the expansions under the reform law kick in.
