Marijuana and THC and Driving

By September 12, 2026Commentary2 min read

Purely out of campaign contribution considerations, gutless politicians (redundancy I know) have legalized marijuana and other THC products.  The result is more mental health issues among young people, cognitive decline, numerous physical health issues, child poisonings and so on.  A new study in JAMA finds that ingestion of THC gummies causes driving impairment for several hours.  Given what I regularly observe about how bad driving is–people running red lights, not stopping at stop signs, speeding excessively, etc.–we really need more impaired drivers on the road.  Wonder how many people will be maimed or killed because of this stupidity.

THC is a particular concern because unlike alcohol, it is difficult to test for concentrations and impairment.  The study found that signficant impairment occurs at levels below those typically used by law enforcement for finding impairment.  The obvious solution is to make THC in all its forms illegal again and certainly to say you can’t drive if you have consumed in the last 24 hours.  That won’t happen, so people will keep getting killed and injured, but don’t worry, the politicians have yet another source of cash, so they will be happy.
