So I was on a plane and I watched this movie, which I otherwise might have skipped. On the plus side, it reminded me of what a tremendous musician Michael Jackson was, and an outstanding choreographer and dancer. The music is not lyrically meaningful in any significant way, but it has rhythm and you cannot help but tap your feet even when strapped in a seat 30,000 feet above the surface. It is feel good music, just get up and dance music. On the negative side, not a word about Jackson’s alleged, and almost certainly true, misbehavior with and abuse of children. Not only that, but the constant theme of domineering mistreatment by his father appears to attempt to set an unstated justification for that behavior. His obsession with his looks, resulting in some weird plastic surgeries, and his ultimate misuse of drugs were also largely unexplored. But if you want a look at the creation of some of the music and just to be reminded of its dynamism, it is worth a watch.
