A group called the Institute for Family Studies issues a report that validates what common sense tell us all. If you want kids to be successful in any aspect of their future life, the nature of the family they grow up in will play a substantial part in creating that success. Despite the fact that most reporting of educational testing results fails to include the variable of family structure, the IFS was able to use other sources to elucidate the role of this factor. Families where the natural or adoptive parents are married and living gather have children who, compared to children in other family structures, are more likely to get excellent grades, much more likely not to have problems at school and they were half as likely to be depressed.
Obviously the federal government and states should be collecting info on this factor and exploring what can be done to help the children with single parents or even living without a parent. Any child needs love and nurturing, firm but loving guidance. In the US we are letting children grow up in terrible situations that cripple their ability to contribute society. We have terrible public schools which often are more interested in indoctrination that in real education. Children are often viewed as a social tool to meet some ideological objective. This is heartbreaking and simply criminal. May those who perpetrate this rot in hell. (IFS Study)
