Confirmation of Something Seen During the CV-19 Epidemic

There were reports of this phenomenon during the epidemic and this new research appears to confirm the notion that people who have a serious CV-19 infection, serious enough to be hospitalized, will often experience a reawakening of residual infections from other viruses.  Viruses appear to have an ability to find a hiding place in the body even after the active infection has been cleared.  This has been a serious issue with HIV infections for example, but it appears to be a common problem with most viruses.  The study was done among more than 1000 patients hospitalized with CV-19.  About half the patients had some other virus that was activated, several known to cause serious disease, such as the Epstein-Barr virus, and some more common and relatively harmless.  The viruses also appeared to re-activate on different timelines, with some reappearing early in the CV-19 infection and others later on.  The reactivation of a more widespread infection by the other viruses was likely caused by a combination of weakening of the immune system from the CV-19 infection and inflammation resulting from that infection.  The reawakened infection likely is responsible for the severity of some CV-19 infections and the dreaded “long CV-19”.     (Nature Article)
