Dem-Run Cities Suck, But You Already Knew That

By June 30, 2026Commentary2 min read

You won’t read about this study in the Strib, in fact you won’t read anything useful in the Strib, but a new study of cities with over 500,000 residents, almost every one of which is run by whacked Dems, shows that they tax like crazy and spend a lot of money but provide nothing in return for their residents.   On a real basis, after inflation, per resident spending has gone up by 18% in ten years.  But no progress occurred on crime, homelessness, rent affordability or other major issues.  The cities tend to be greatly increasing workers, except in police forces, even as the number of residents drops in many.  One reason cities are run so poorly is that they hire incompetent workers who can’t get a job in the private sector, workers with meaningless degrees, if any, and they hire on the basis of race or gender or other characteristics, not skill.  The basic expectation is not that workers do a good job or even show up, but that they give a good portion of their pay to Dems as campaign contributions.

A fiscal reckoning is coming for these cities.  Despite high taxes, they almost all have budget deficits year after year and are running out of debt capacity.  Spending cuts or even worse service levels are coming.  And residents continue to flee these high-tax, poor service cities, either to suburbs or to another state, usually in the south or southwest.  (RCI Report)

It’s like student government. Free ice cream and no homework. We need managers in our governments local state and national. Instead we get people that want to be celebrities. Almost all the competant people have left the building. Eventually we’ll pay the price. We know the next generations will.
