The earth warms and cools constantly, on decadal, century, millenial and longer time scales. It has done this since before humans arrived on the scene and long before humans developed the use of fossil fuels, whose cheap provision of energy literally “fueled” the explosion of technology and industry and the incredibly rapid increase in living standards over the last 250 years. But according to the climate hysteric narrative, any recent change in the earth’s overall temperature must be due to CO2, allegedly primarily released through the burning of fossil fuels. I think this is complete bullshit, not supported by any rational body of research. I think we are seeing nothing more than typical natural variability.
I don’t doubt human activities can have an impact on weather, even on climate, but it would take an immense perturbation to overwhelm the complexity of the climate system, with its multiple feedback mechanisms. Most recently three studies, summarized at the linked post, demonstrate that all temperature increase in recent decades is due to increased sunshine hitting the surface or lower atmosphere of the earth. More sunshine delivers more heat. Why is there more sunshine reaching the surface or lower atmosphere? Because of diminished cloud cover. And that has nothing to do with CO2 levels. It appears to be a natural change in the amount of cloud cover that occurs over cycles we don’t clearly understand. I would suspect that it is ironically most likely due to the reduction of pollution, especially aerosols and particulates that may aid cloud growth. I recall New York and Los Angeles in the 1970s, 80s and 90s, basically constantly covered with a deep layer of smog. That layer of smog, and the generally increased cloud cover at that time, reflected more sunshine back to space in the day, but also likely increased nighttime temperatures as they trapped heat.
From flaws, often intentional, in how temperatures are measured, to models that are set up to give extremist answers, to outright research fraud, they hysterics will do anything to promote their ideology, demonize cheap fossil fuels and help billionaires make more money from renewals, money that the billionaires then give to fund the climate hysterics. The truth is almost certainly more prosaic–we are just experiencing typical natural variations.
I write this from France, where it has been incredibly hot for over a week, of course, attributed to human-caused warming. Meanwhile other parts of the world are far cooler than normal, but no mention of that. Minneapolis has had a very extended well below normal run of temperatures, which does not appear to be ending any time soon. Parts of the western US and Canada are about to experience far cooler than average temps. So it goes, every year. (NTZ Post)
