More on the all affordability issues are caused by government front. I noted recently that housing costs were high in large part because of government policies that limit supply, cause construction delays and contribute to high prices. A story from Alpha News reports on research from the National Association of Home Builders that finds that government regulations add around $130,000 to the average price for a house, or more than a quarter of its total price. Some of this occurs during lot development and some during construction. These government-imposed costs have risen 40% in just the last five years. (Alpha News Story)
