There really isn’t a lot to say. The courage that the Armed Forces members have displayed throughout our history is simply indescribable. To literally put your life on the line is something most of us never have to do. And unlike the military of most countries, our Armed Forces have generally fought to protect the freedoms of other nations. Without the dedication and bravery of American fighters, democracies devoted to individual freedom might not have won the first or second World War; South Korea would not be the staunch ally we have today; Japan would not be a democratic nation that is a strong friend; and the Mideast would be even more of a mess. Americans fight for humanity; not for a dictator’s delusions of grandeur.
And yet many of our citizens, especially younger ones, have no appreciation for the sacrifices made by our military members. Some, like the Democrat candidate for Senate in Maine, openly mock them and wish them ill. This is shameful, but also a worrisome indicator of just how far down the road to complete decline our country is. So I hope everyone will take every opportunity, not just today, but every day, to thank members of the military for their service and their sacrifice.
