Another conspiracy myth busted. For a long time municipalities have put fluoride in water supplies because it helps strengthen tooth enamel and prevent decay. I would just as soon have water as pure as possible, but fluoride generally isn’t harmful at low levels. Of course the delusional conspiracy nuts somehow came up with the theory, based on sketchy research (wonder if trial lawyers had anything to do with that research?), that fluoride affects IQ levels. I think fluoride isn’t the reason for their low intelligence. And so now of course people are doing more research, which also of course is showing no link. A large population study in Wisconsin finds no link between exposure to fluoridated water and adolescent intelligence. The adolescents should be fine as long as they stay away from the internet and social media, where all kinds of mind-numbing rot persists. As I said above, I don’t particularly care about fluoride in the water, probably are better ways to improve children’s dental health, but I really dislike phony research and health conspiracies.
