I used to do year in review posts and coming year predictions, but my record was so bad, I gave up. Here are some really safe ones. Health care costs will stay high and nothing that makes any difference will be done about them. The economy will chug along at a good clip, but inflation will stay stubbornly present, and for the middle and upper middle income classes that determine elections, there will be a perception that they are either standing still or falling behind. Little Timmy Walz, the Incompetent Blowhard (has there ever been a better or more apt appellation for a politician?) hisself, will still be denying the scope of fraud in Minnesota, denying that any of it was his fault, that if there was some, he will be the one to clean it up, and so on, all in a spittle-spewing rage. May 2026 please be the year Minnesota is rid of this clown.
The war in Ukraine will still be going on, Gaza will still be a mess, Africa will be a mess, God knows what China will do. Why? Because in my old age I am resigned to the fact that human nature basically sucks. People can be very kind and thoughtful but also incredibly violent and brutal. And the violent brutal ones seem to have a knack for getting control of governments, so no end in sight to destructive conflicts.
Donald Trump will still be driving me crazy with generally good policies and unbelievably stupid and un-Presidential behavior, behavior that hurts the conservative cause. Oh well, so it goes. The Earth will continue to rotate and revolve around the sun, the sun will orbit the center of the galaxy, the galaxy will continue its wandering through the universe, and I will still have no idea what it all means or why we are here. But you know what, I never give up on learning, on understanding or on fighting to make this country and the world a better place.
