This is a hilarious article in a hilarious paper, our local Star Tribune. The story is regarding our disaster of a light rail, which operates at a huge loss, with ridership far below projections. New branches of the light rail are years behind schedule and billions of dollars over budget. No one will ride these branches either and all they do is make it easier for criminals to get to the entire metro. The Strib dutifully reports that there may be a safety issue on light rail, since well under half the riders feel safe either on the trains or at stations. Metro Transit, a woeful agency that runs the light rail is planning to spend a lot of money to get riders to return. That will just make the loses even greater.
The things agency representatives say are absurd. Drug users freely shoot up on the train and at the stations, but the policy is not to arrest them or even stop them. Failure to pay is common, which means all kinds of degenerates just hop on the trains, but God forbid those people should be cited in any way. Can you imagine being a parent and taking your kid on light rail to have to be subjected to drug use and other bizarre and dangerous behavior? The morons who run the agency are adding trains while ridership continues to fall–which runs up bigger deficits, and they are clueless that people don’t believe it will get safer. And they are more conerned with providing “assistance” to the degenerates than getting them off the streets. The Twin Cities are governed by sick people with no practical experience in anything. And their ideas for how to make people’s lives better only make them far worse. (Strib Story)
