Schaudenfreude, Strib Style

By September 10, 2025Commentary1 min read

The Minnesota StarTribune is going out of business fast.  The paper is shrinking, it has few ads, readership has declined.  The paper just announced that it is closing its local printing plant and will print the paper in Des Moines now.  There will be associated job losses.  Apparently, contrary to what the Strib tries to tell us, Iowa is a far better place to do business than Minnesota.  The paper is worthless as a source of news, completely biased in its opinion pages and its new stories, most of which come from far-left sources like the NY Times, the Wash Post and AP.  The owner and the publisher seem to be unable to understand that the paper’s looney-tunes politics are why readership has declined so continually and rapidly.  I take delight it their misfortune and hope it continues until they are out of business, much as I love a paper newspaper, or they become a source or real journalism.

Same as KC Star a joke newspaper. Moved its printing to Des Moines several years ago so news is always a day behind.

Another reason to come down to the Hawkeye state, Kevin.

I agree that most newspapers have become left wing woke publications.

there are two reasons the scrip and most every newspaper have significant declines in readership.

One reason is the heavy liberal slant – there is no question that liberal slant has chased off readership.

However, the largest reason for the decline is the change in technology / demographics. The internet has become a much faster and less expensive format for obtaining news. Very similar technology change going from horse drawn buggies to automobiles.

Joe, are you sure about all that? So, you think all this decline in newspaper reading is really because of the change in technology after all? Interesting take, my brother.
