The President celebrated the jobs report this morning as showing his “plan” is working. Not sure what the plan is, but the jobs report for March likely isn’t strongly influenced by it and certainly not by the tariffs as unveiled. In any event, as was the course during the Bidementia administration, the February number as originally reported was revised downward by about 34,000 to 117,000. The March number came in at 228,000, much higher than estimated. The unemployment rate, which comes from the household survey, rose slightly to 4.2%
The job gains were in health care and social assistance, heavily government-influenced sectors. Transportation and warehousing and retailers also had gains. There was some loss of government jobs, which at least at the federal level will almost certainly accelerate in coming months. We have a serious problem with slackers in this country–people who could work but live off of government payments. (BLS Report)
