Debunking Climate Hysteria, February 9, 2025

I am way too prolific today, writing way too much.  2024 was a warm year.  The climate hysterics attribute it to human-driven fossil fuel use and cow farts.  The reality is more natural in origin, so anathema to them.  I have mentioned before that we had a huge volcanic eruption in the south Pacific in 2022 that put massive amounts of water and ash into the air.  This new study traces the effects of that eruption.  The huge increase in water vapor in the upper stratosphere led to a cooling effect at that level.  Now you might say, well that obviously can’t account for the warmth in 2024.  Except that due to the complex set of feedbacks in the atmosphere, cooling high up leads to more warmth lower down at the surface and in the air near the surface where we are doing our actual temperature measurement.  So while the study doesn’t directly attribute warmth at the surface to the upper stratosphere cooling, this is an accepted effect.  (GRL Article)  (PNAS Article)

Ice extent and ice mass in the Arctic, Antarctica and Greenland stubbornly refuse to decline as predicted by the hysterics.  Lot of the world’s ice is in Antarctica and the hysterics frequently try to claim that we are seeing more large ice calving events–ice breaking off from the ends of glaciers or ice shelves on the sea.  This is obviously a completely natural process and it is the presence of more ice pushing on the total stream or shelf that eventually causes the breakoff.  This post at Watts Up With That describes a study finding no change in large calving events or in the total area of the icebergs resulting from these events.  As I always say, you don’t have to look far to debunk hysterics lies.  (WUWT Post)
