I love science, it is the key to understanding the universe and life. Too bad it has gotten so perverted to political ends in this country. One of the most fascinating areas for the last 100 years has been quantum theory. And one of the most interesting practical applications of that theory is quantum computing. A seminal problem in quantum computing has been error correction, because quantum systems are very easily perturbed. If you are interested in a brief background on quantum computing this article gives a little of that but more importantly discusses the state of error correction and an important new advance in that arena. If you are at all interested in this area I strongly recommend signing up to the Quanta site, which is free right now. And my assumption is that DARPA, NSA, CIA et al are at least three years ahead of anything that gets publicly disclosed so I believe that there probably are working quantum computers doing God knows what.
