November 4 Debt Auction

By November 4, 2024Commentary1 min read

There are so many of these that I will just title them by date.  If you want to track this yourself you can go to treasury.gov and see the auction schedule and results and there are several websites that provide commentary.  I will remind you again that these auction sizes are unprecedented and that has to be affecting the auction characteristics.  Today was $58 billion in 3-year notes.  Interest rate paid was once again higher than expected, 4.15% compared to 3.88% last month.  This despite acceptable demand characteristics, especially from foreign buyers.  Broken record warning–rates will stay high as the US Treasury struggles to unload all this debt.
