Offshore Wind Power Is Expensive, Unreliable and Dangerous

By October 27, 2024Commentary

The wind power industry, backed by rich Dem party donor billionaires, has spent a lot of money and done a lot of lobbying to hide the harms caused by wind farms and to lie about both the reliability and cost of electricity generated by these monstrosities.  But events like whales dying on the east coast and a wind turbine coming apart and messing up the shores of the billionaires playgrounds like Nantucket are hard to ignore.  And a new environmental assessment of proposed offshore wind farms for New York describes in great detail the dangers of this immense folly.  This comes from a US agency–the Bureau of Energy Management in the Department of the Interior.   (BOEM Report)

The proposed projects would put over 1100 wind turbines in the ocean off New York and New Jersey and be accompanied by offshore stations, cables, etc.  These are massive machines reaching hundreds of feet into the air.  They affect wind and water currents, air circulation patterns, fish, marine mammals, sea birds and humans.  Prior research has shown that these installations have deleterious weather impacts.  The report tries to sugarcoat the negative impacts, since all those Dem billionaire donors don’t want their gravy train of subsidies to be derailed.  But it is clear that the authors know these are not benign installations.  And local communities and some environmental groups are increasingly alarmed.  Be interesting to see how this internecine warfare turns out.
