The climate hysterics would like you to only focus on the last 40 or 50 years of temperatures. They don’t want you to know what the earth’s climate has been like for the last few hundred million years or the last 3 million years or even the last 100,000 years. Why? Because then you would see how temperature has cycled repeatedly and been far warmer in the past than it is now, all obviously with no impact from supposed human fossil fuel use increasing CO2 levels. And even the unsupported claim that we have seen rapid temperature increases in the last few decades is not unusual, these fast reversals are common in the historical record.
Science magazine has gone full whacked woke and anti-science when it comes to climate issues, but it can’t avoid the truths presented by good research, so it published research covering the last 500 million years of temperature history. We are in a very cool period, particularly compared to 50 million to 150 million years ago. The core chart in the article reveals clearly the substantial ups and downs in temperature and the very sharp nature of reversals. Of course the authors claim there is a clear relationship between CO2 levels and temperature and that CO2 is the “dominant control” on temperature. Of course the problem with that is that the historical evidence indicates that CO2 likely lags, not leads, higher temperatures, which makes sense since higher temperatures mean more vegetation and more carbon available for use in the carbon cycle, including CO2. And of course, when CO2 levels have been high in the past, they somehow naturally reversed, giving the lie to the notion that what is occurring today is irreversible. (Science Article)

Its not really in dispute that the earth has been on a warming trend since the end of the little ice age, albeit a relatively minor warming trend, in relation to the entire holcene period.
The activists frequently display before and after pictures of the melting glaciers. with the before pictures in the late 1800’s or very early 1900’s. Then they show pictures of the same glacier taken as recently as possible showing the massive retreat of the glacier, with the implication that all the melting has occurred in the very recent past.
They do not show pictures every decade or in a series so that you can visualize how much of the melting occurred in each decade. The obvious reason is that most of north american glacier melt occurred in the first part of the 20th century. Such information conflicts with the claim that most of the temp rise has occurred since 1970.
The hottest weather ever recorded in Iowa was 90 years ago in 1934. The highest temperature was 118 degrees in Keokuk. No air conditioning (except perhaps in theatres and we were in this thing called The Depression. My father told me that people took their beds outside to sleep. Fascism was gaining ground in Europe (not just Germany and Italy) and Japan was laying waste to the Asian mainland. We would be fighting in a world war in seven years time.
At no time did anybody stop and think to themselves, ” What are we going to do about global warming?”.
