I have suspected this for some time and as you know I eagerly search for research on the topic–wind and solar are not only expensive and unreliable sources of electricity; they are dreadful for the environment through all phases of their life cycle. I also know that they will by definition of how they work impact the local weather and even climate. This is particularly true of wind on the sea. Those turbines interfere with and redirect the natural atomospheric flow. Do you really think that wouldn’t impact the ocean and any upstream or downstream land areas? Well the research is piling up showing it does, aside from killing whales and other sea life. This post at Watts Up With That describes research in Germany finding that wind turbines cut the efficiency of wind farms by wake effects but also contribute to warming by their changes in natural air circulation. The effect can be felt up to over 50 miles away from the turbines. And now a leading wind power company, Orstead, has confirmed these effects. The company ironically has blamed these impacts on the profitability of its products and the electricity produced. And the wind farms on the ocean are disturbing the entire food web for hundreds of square miles. Very environmentally friendly indeed. (WUWT Post)
