Climate Tidbits

By March 9, 2024Commentary

While climate hysterics both tremble with joy and shriek about impending doom as this winter is the “warmest on record” in some parts of the world (warmest on record meaning in the last 100 years of the Earth’s four billion year plus existence), getting a dose of reality is more important than ever.  Remember the big picture–climate hysteria is just another of the pathetic attempts to get meaning in the lives of people who have none, they are saving the Earth.  And the hysteria has been taken over and redirected, as usual, by wealthy people always eager to get more money and by politicians always looking for more power over the lives of the average citizen.  So the bullshit CO2 temperature control knob theory springs up, meaning we have to get rid of fossil fuels and use “renewables”, which turn out to be expensive, unreliable and bad for the environment, i.e., that precious Mother Earth we are supposedly saving.  And of course there must be subsidies, which will all go to rich people.

Unfortunately for the hysterics, despite their best efforts, a small cadre of researchers interested in truth and data still exist.  And here is a lovely post put together by a gentleman who has taken ice core data from Greenland to show us that there really isn’t some emergency about ice-melting or the world burning up.  (SA Post)  (You may have to register to read it, but it is free, after you click the appropriate boxes.)   He takes data from two prior studies and combines it to provide a clearer picture of temperature trends over the last 9000 years.  If you look at the graphs, it is apparent that it was warmer earlier in this inter-glacial period, which is likely nearing its end, and that there is nothing unusual in the current spike of higher temperatures.  Look at figure 3 in particular and you will note the generally declining temperature trend line, but also the periods of significant spikes up and down from that trend line.  As you can imagine, one reason today’s temperatures look like they are rising a lot is because we were emerging from a colder spike in the 1700s.

So we can maybe all calm down a bit, and stop wasting trillions of dollars converting our economy to a disaster run on really expensive, really unreliable forms of energy production, as Germany is already experiencing.  Meanwhile China and Russia, who egg the hysterics in our country on, act as though there is no issue at all, continuing to build cheap and reliable coal plants, and India is doing the same.
