Coronamonomania Lives Forever, Part 111

By February 28, 2022Commentary

As the world is turned topsy-turvy, the CDC and everyone else are finding all kinds of excuses to dump measures that never had any scientific or medical justification.  As I said earlier in the week, nothing like a good war to end an epidemic.  Dems are secretly celebrating the spotlight coming off the epidemic, but unfortunately, Biden looks as incompetent handling the Ukraine crisis as he did the epidemic.

This large study on reinfection risks found that people with a prior infection were 87% less likely to have a subsequent infection than were people with no prior infection.  And the protection held up over an extended period of time, unlike what has been experienced with vaccines.  (Medrxiv Paper)

This study from Israel reports what has become obvious in the Minnesota and other data, the boosters also lose effectiveness against infection in a few months, particularly in the context of Omicron.  (Medrxiv Paper)

But this paper from the NBA claims that boosted players and staff had a much lower rate of infection.  The effect of time from boosting, however, is ignored.  (Medrxiv Paper)

People worry most about dying from CV-19 disease and this study from the UK examined relative mortality among Delta and Omicron infectees.  Omicron infectees had a 67% lower risk of death, and greater protection was found among those who were boosted.  (Medrxiv Paper)

A study from my home state of Minnesota looks at transmission among a set of vaxed and unvaxed attendees at a wedding reception.  Out of 75 people, about a third became infected.  The risk was said to be greater among the unvaxed, but transmission from the vaxed to other vaxed persons and to the unvaxed was observed.  There was incomplete followup of all attendees and other issues with the findings.  For some reason the authors did not attempt to assess the relative rates of transmission by vaxed and unvaxed persons.   (JAMA Article)

Okay, this study reminds me of one a year ago that was never replicated and had apparent problems.  The authors claim to have observed in the lab, not in an actual human, that mRNA vaccine product was incorporated into DNA.  I don’t believe these findings because they are implausible.  The human nucleus and the DNA molecule inside it are protected by a variety of processes that prevent modification of DNA except in limited circumstances. The experiment does not mimic vaccination.  Extremely high concentrations of vaccine were used in a lab test, the results inconsistently claimed to show high incorporation into DNA at 6 hours, but not at 24 hours and then again at 48 hours.  Without confirmation that this actually occurs in living human beings, this is just another version of vaccine scare-mongering.   (CIMB Article)
