For Those Who Think the Vaccines Will End the Epidemic

By November 16, 2021Commentary

I encourage you to go look at Iceland and Gibraltor.  Gibraltor has a 100% vax rate, Iceland is close.  Both are having large case waves.  Check on Worldometers or any similar site.  How many times do I have to say that the age structure in a fully vaxed population will look like the age structure in a fully unvaxed population.  And I used to add that the absolute numbers, however, would be lower.  Now I am not sure.  If Minnesota keeps going, we will have as many cases, hospitalizations and deaths as we did last late fall and early winter, but last year no one was vaxed.  The Governor told us the vaccines would end the epidemic, after he told us masks would, after he told us lockdowns and school closings would.  He is not alone.  He is also an idiot who knows nothing and understands nothing.  We need, we must have, a different plan.  And actually, the plan is no plan.  Just say its over.  You can’t stop the virus until it runs through the population.  I give you Florida today.  And even then, it will be back, just like influenza.  All the damage we did made no difference, just imposed a lot of self-inflicted wounds.  Time to stop that.

No wonder they don’t give you the data.

I’m vaccinated (2nd Moderna dose 4/15) and 70yo retired to Hawaii.
What I don’t understand is the CDC data for Covid and total deaths in HI.
    https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/covid19/index.htm
Prior to Covid (Jan 2020), and continuing thru July 2021 our State continually had 1,000 deaths/mo (+/- 100) with generally less than 1 CV death/day.
By July 2021 we had a significant vaccination rate (>50% 1 w/shot), and tourism resumed in Oct 2021 with a solid (60%) tourist volume last Winter continuing to the present (all pre-tested neg.).
Now in July-Aug 2021 we saw this sudden, big peak in CV deaths (about 6/day) in HI, and overall deaths to the tune of about +250/mo.
Our PH people blame it all on the unvaccinated, but this can’t be true. The unvaccinated are mainly in the under 40yo, so the CV death rate in this group cannot account for all of it.
In the whole US the pattern for July-Aug 2021 repeats.
If the “big picture” data makes no sense, what is the point of breaking it down? Especially, considering the data collection and supervision is biased or flawed (and not timely).
We have a blend of…….non-CV infected who are vaxxed…..infected and non-vaxxed……infected and vaxxed…….non-infected and non-vaxxed…..with all age groups in various proportions …….with variable time since infection or vaxx date.
I think it will be impossible to sort this out.

It’s hard to have any confidence in our leaders’ responsiveness, but I believe it’s at least potentially worthwhile to call and write to them, criticizing the covid policies that are clearly not working. How else will Walz (or whichever governor) get the message that he needs to change course?

    This is the only way.

In my news feed, I saw a headline about whether we should get ready for a fourth booster shot.

Seems pretty clear that it’s no more than a [possible] severity reduction serum. Nowhere near any definition of a ‘vaccine’. Will probably (should) end up in the history books as another pharma global failure.

But don’t fear, they’re coming after us with oral and plant based options next. Maybe the Nuremburg Code doesn’t extend to the produce isle? End game TBD, you really have to ask what’s so dam important to get into our bodies with all of this evidence that it’s not working? Orders are way out into the future for these serums across the globe. I’m starting to move my money to the ‘Tinfoil Hat’ team, Graphene Oxide and the 5G revolution.

If this wasn’t so pathetic and children weren’t involved it would be funny.

Larry, I hate to tell ya, but you’re not vaccinated.

“You can’t stop the virus until it runs through the population.”

This is the first time I’ve read your blog, so I haven’t yet managed to read much of it, but I suspect these are some of the most important words you’ve written. So much of the “management” of this pandemic is based on the illusion of control, as Swiss Policy Research has put it.

    https://swprs.org/covid-the-illusion-of-control/

Or maybe politics just demands that politicians pretend that they can control it. Since quite a number of politicians have cheated on their own restrictions, one wonders if they were under any illusions in the first place.

  • Abhijit Bakshi says:

Yes, LA_Bob, the illusionof control is exactly what it is. Hayek called it the fatal conceit. It plays out again and again as long as people believe – against all available evidence – that they can create a perfect government of experts.

  • Patrick says:

The authoritarians got DJT out of office. To them the ends justify the means. They cannot stop the rhetoric both because it would expose them. In addition they are drunk with power and the illusion they have control over a microscopic organism.
