Thanks again to Twitter, a chart showing what you might expect with excess mortality trends in the US. 2020 had a lot of excess deaths, but many of those were “pull forwards”, people who would have died in the next few months anyway. Now that deaths from CV-19 have lessened, we are seeing lower overall excess mortality, particularly among the elderly who were the hardest hit by far by CV-19. Slight bump back up recently. Trend will likely persist for a couple of years. Look at the second chart, however, the one for just those under age 25. That isn’t CV-19 deaths, that is drug overdoses and suicides. Nice work, all you public health experts who love your lockdowns and school closures.
