US Excess Mortality Trends

By August 16, 2021Commentary1 min read

Thanks again to Twitter, a chart showing what you might expect with excess mortality trends in the US.  2020 had a lot of excess deaths, but many of those were “pull forwards”, people who would have died in the next few months anyway.  Now that deaths from CV-19 have lessened, we are seeing lower overall excess mortality, particularly among the elderly who were the hardest hit by far by CV-19.  Slight bump back up recently.  Trend will likely persist for a couple of years.  Look at the second chart, however, the one for just those under age 25.  That isn’t CV-19 deaths, that is drug overdoses and suicides.  Nice work, all you public health experts who love your lockdowns and school closures.
