Celebrate Our Country and History on the Fourth

Over 200 years a few very  brave and very thoughtful men took the incredibly courageous step of opposing distant rule by the then most powerful nation in the world.  The words they wrote in declaring independence should be read every day by every person in this country.  Every Fourth of July, I print them to remind people how this country was really founded:

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, –That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.”

The first sentence of this passage never fails to bring tears; at the time it was written, this was truly radical, the notion that a people had a right to self-determination in government and the purpose of that government was to advance the lives of those who were governed.  Today, around the world most people still live under dictatorships and in constant fear of offending those in power.

On the other side of this stirring declaration of basic human rights, which has led to unparalleled opportunity for hundreds of millions of people, is the radical “progressive” movement, which creates nothing but regression in every aspect of life.  This movement is exemplified by the National Education Association, which has perverted learning and represents teachers and administrators who think only about their own economic welfare and who during the pandemic put their own safety above the interests of the nation’s school children and continue to do so.  A disgraceful organization which should be disbanded and its leaders jailed.

John Hinderaker, who writes outstanding columns at the Powerline blog, has given us the full detail of the latest insanity from this organization.  (PL Column)   I strongly, strongly  encourage you to read this in its entirety, so that you understand what this organization wants to teach your children–pure racism, a totally negative account of American history, state-sponsored bullying, confusing young children about their gender and sexual orientation; all disgusting and perverse.  This organization sees teachers as brainwashers and indoctrinators, with the ultimate goal of keeping the Democratic party in power so that it gives endless financial goodies to teachers.  The NEA doesn’t give a damn about teaching real history or science or math, or anything that actually leads to progress in the people’s and the nation’s life.  It is cheered on by the Chinese and the Russians and other countries that wish us ill; and they have learned that supporting the NEA and other similar organizations is the cheapest and most effective way to destroy our country as a role model for the world and an economic and military competitor.

There is a reason why people from under-developed and tyrannized countries around the world still seek desperately to come to the United States.  It is because they know that we are the place where they will have the opportunity to create a better life.  And ironically it may be this group of recent immigrants that leads us out of the insanity of the NEA, Black Lives Matter, and the rich, white progressives, who make sure they don’t live where their insane policies do the most damage.  This is war.  I have no interest in compromise with whackos who are too insane to see the actual consequences of their policies.  We all have to fight for the values so memorably stated in the Declaration of Independence and that means fighting against those who would take us back to the chaos and destruction of the French Revolution.
