Here is an excellent chart that describes what I consider one of the real tragedies during my lifetime, the complete politicization of science. Real scientific work and progress assumes that current knowledge is actually wrong and is constantly hypothesis testing to get a more accurate picture of reality. The bullshit we see called science, and even worse, the ideological know-nothings who couldn’t read and understand a piece of research if their life depended on it but try to tell us they are just following the science, have destroyed the credibility of this beautiful, most important of all human disciplines. If scientific organizations and journals don’t pull back and just completely stay out of politics and if they don’t encourage actual rigorous experimental designs and replication of results, they deserve exactly what they will get, a credibility rating of zero. CV-19 has become a perfect example of this.

I think the scientific method flowchart is missing a step – If results align with the hypothesis, the experiment needs to be done at least two more times, preferably at least once by people who had no involvement with the original experiment.
I agree. The real scientific method is very rigorous, and very skeptical about results until replicated by independent groups.
I’m sure you’re aware of the name given to bogus science by Richard Feynman: Cargo Cult science.
Because scientist, like the rest of us, are influenced by financial incentives, state sponsored research is pernicious.
