As I encourage you all to do, I regularly write to the Governor, who claims he takes all input into account. I don’t know about others experience but I never even get an acknowledgment of receipt. And I have written to the people doing the modeling in Minnesota with suggestions and questions. Initially I got responses, but lately nothing. So here is the text of my latest email to the Governor and to the modeler, without the paragraph of introduction.
To the Governor:
First, thank you for your thoughtful reviews, comments and letters. I wanted to share something that just came out today from Governor Cuomo about NEW reported cases that only serves to reinforce the idea of immunity vs sheltering when the risk is so low for so many; “If you notice, 18% of the people came from nursing homes, less than 1% came from jail or prison, 2% came from the homeless population, 2% from other congregate facilities, but 66% of the people were at home, which is shocking to us,” the governor told reporters.
I’ve suspected for awhile this might be the case as early on researchers were discussing viral load as a key contributor. The amazing thing about the entire situation is how a common sense look at the numbers, combined with reasonable, back of napkin calculations about undetected rates of infection has turned out to be much more accurate than those we rely on to be “experts” in the field.
I have submitted letters and left messages (and even contacted a bewildered staffer once) to our Governor’s office with no response to my request for an explanation of the “metrics” for easing / opening MN.
Best Regards – From a small business owner responsible for 10 Minnesota family livelihood.
PS- Please keep up the pressure and let me know what else I can do to help!
Thank you for your insight and analysis, Mr. Roche. I’m grateful for your translation and explanation of mounds of data. Unfortunately, facts and data don’t seem to sway our Governor, nor even members of my own family for that matter. It is beyond my understanding why he thinks as he does. Therefore I can only deduce his actions are not misguided, but are instead intentional.
