Why I Am Doing This

By April 28, 2020Commentary

I get a fair number of comments on the posts, most very kind, helpful, insightful.  People ask me at times why I have detoured from normal activities to spend so much time on this.  I am almost 70 years old.  I have seen a lot of things in my life, but I never could have imagined that we as a society would commit such a self-destructive act.  I don’t think either the lack of necessity or justification for the shutdown of the economy or the lasting damage that those shutdowns will impose on all of us are yet apparent to most people.  We are all still in shock that this has happened, and that we have done it to ourselves.

I have children and grandchildren.  They had a good quality of life, and the prospect for continued improvement.  Now I don’t know what they have.  Don’t buy the happy talk about bouncing back and everything will be fine.  It won’t be.  I do this because I am concerned, as we all should be concerned at all times, about what kind of world we are creating for those children and grandchildren.  It doesn’t matter what happens to me or other old people.  It does matter what happens to the young people.  The faster we switch course the more likely we can leave them something worthwhile.

Amen! Bless you Kevin! Most of us didn’t even know who Cuomo, Walz, or Evers even was, and now they are playing self-sacrificiing heros, here to protect us? What qualifications do they have? They are the equivalent of mortgage originators at your local bank, they tell you what someone else tells them, and make it seem like it was their idea, that they are all of the sudden experts? We’re like sheep, shrugging our shoulders. The ripple effect on the economy will be horrific. We need to get back to work.
