More on Quantum Mysteries

According to the theory of quantum mechanics, the world is very weird at extremely small scale.  The processes described at that level don’t accord with our daily experience of the world and the physical laws that govern that experience.  To some extent quantum mechanics can be viewed as just a mathematical explanation, a set of probabilities, not a definitive description of reality.   Physicists are working hard to attempt to understand how what quantum mechanics describes at a small scale transforms to the physical reality we experience at a slightly larger scale.  The primary theory for this transformation is currently “decoherence”.  This article gives a good explanation of the problem and this theory’s attempt to solve it.  (QM Article)

A physicist named Zurek at the Los Alamos National Laboratory is a leading researcher on this theory and has published several books and articles on how it might work to bridge the gap between quantum mechanics and the “real” world.  The fuzziness that surrounds the properties of a particle under the quantum realm somehow has to become more definitive in the “real” world.  The “entanglement” phenomenon of quantum mechanics was Zurek’s focus and he believes he has shown that all particles undergo multiple entanglements constantly and that this dilutes or eliminates the quantum behavior, but also imprints a specific outcome of that quantum behavior that persists in the larger aggregations of particles and leads to the physical reality we all experience with an object of any size.

A very complex explanation that is underpinned by a lot of math.  Is it right?  I obviously can’t judge.  I am just happy that the world we experience appears to obey some pretty well set rules that are not subject to hopping around and fuzziness.
