Yes, it is frightful to undertake this task regularly. After immersing yourself in the Strib, decompression is mandatory. So how is Trump being attacked these days and the ugliness in Minnesota ignored, since those are the sole preoccupations of the paper.
The evils of the shutdown abound, and of course it is Trump’s fault, not the Democrats who refuse to vote for resolution to continue funding the government at current levels. The Dems want to force spending on certain crazy pet items as part of a compromise and they are lying about the impact of Obamacare subsidy changes, changes which by the way they solely enacted–that expiration data was set by Democrats and not one Republican voted for it. Anyway, as you can imagine, people are starving, not getting health care, freezing to death, whatever bad thing you can imagine it is happening because of Trump’s shutdown.
The evils of the trade war abound. In fairness, I am not fond of the President’s approach to trade, but the nonsense about the harms that are resulting is ludicrous. And of course when the President gets something beneficial to the US out of his approach, like China agreeing to maintain a high level of soybean purchases, it gets very little attention compared to the front-page stories on the damage to farmers from China’s initial freeze of purchases.
Trump is planning a military dictatorship in his moves to use federal forces to stop crime in major Dem-run cities. The Strib somehow manages to avoid reporting that the residents and businesses in these cities that are most affected by crime are thrilled that at last someone is doing something to stop it.
God bless the far-left wing federal judges who try to interfere with Trump’s programs, even if they are routinely shown to be out-of-line activists who are far exceeding their powers by the Supreme Court. No kings, but it is fine for unelected federal judges to act like kings.
And speaking of no kings, the Strib celebrates all these pathetic rallies, without managing to note that attendance was exclusively limited to old white people. Wonder what that says.
The Strib continues to wail about the blowing up of boats bringing drugs to the US. I guess the paper would prefer that hundreds of Minnesotans continue to die from fentanyl and other drug overdoses every year.
The turn to anti-semitism continues, with any issue regarding problems in the ceasefire being blamed on Israel and ignoring the actions of Hamas.
Trump is destroying American history by remodeling part of the White House. The White House hosts many important diplomatic and other functions and is simply not large enough to do that effectively with the current space layout, but you won’t read that in the Strib.
ICE and immigration law enforcement are bad, very, very bad. We need those criminals and workers to wipe our old asses. This theme seems to be petering out, probably because most people approve of closing the border and removing people not here legally, especially if they are criminals or ne’er-do-wells.
Meanwhile in Minnesota, even the Strib can’t ignore the complete mess of the Minneapolis public schools, which are facing continued enrollment declines because the schools basically don’t teach any students anything. Math and reading scores are beyond atrocious. But they do a great job of indoctrination and they pay teachers and administrators a lot of money for being complete failures.
Our racist, incompetent Attorney General, Keith Ellison, is running for a third term, wouldn’t that be wonderful. He can keep focussing on suing Trump while doing nothing about crime in the state and ignoring, no, make that facilitating, massive frauds against government programs.
A front-page hagiography of racist, crooked, America-hating Omar Fateh, the Somali socialist running for Minneapolis mayor. I want him to win, apparently the dunces who live in Minneapolis haven’t had it bad enough yet. Wonder how much money Fateh and his cronies can steal from the city? How many years of double-digit property tax increases with no services will people put up with. These questions aren’t asked by the Strib. Meanwhile we are led to believe that Targets laying off of a very large number of downtown employees has nothing to do with how badly Minneapolis sucks.
Lot of coverage of the tragedy of a local ice cream shop being firebombed, maybe because it had a pride flag, but the coverage ceased when the perpetrator was revealed to be a black male.
All the defund the police nonsense and the failure to prosecute crime is leading to some bad occurrences, like the murder of an African-American woman in a domestic abuse case that was ignored because of lack of resources.
And thank goodness, that is it for another couple of weeks.
