Employment in Minnesota

By September 22, 2025Commentary2 min read

Tim Walz, as we all know, lies about everything.  One of his lies is about how great Minnesota’s economy is and what a wonderful employment situation the state has.  Unfortunately for Little Timmy, the Bureau of Labor Statistics puts out employment numbers by state.  Minnesota’s economy sucks compared to most states, so employment similarly is below par.  Little Timmy attempted to celebrate supposedly high job growth in August while ignoring the longer trend, and he failed to note that Minnesota was one of only three states that had an unemployment rate increase in August and he used numbers that weren’t seasonally adjusted, which show six times the growth rate of seasonally adjusted ones.

Since 2018 Minnesota has seen jobs grow by a mere 2.8%, while the country as a whole experienced 7% growth.  If you guessed that Republican run states like Florida, Texas, Tennessee and North Carolina had far higher growth rates than Minnesota and other Dem-run states, you would be completely correct.  Minnesota’s shortfall in job growth compared to the nation has accelerated during the time Little Timmy has been in office.  And almost all job growth in Minnesota is in government or in health care and education, two areas heavily supported by government.  Almost all of the job growth in August was in health care and education.   There is little to no private sector job growth in the state.   (BLS Release)
