More catching up on goings on in our local newspaper, which as I have previously mentioned basically just follows orders from the broader left-wing media. At least half the stories are cadged from the NYTimes, the Washington Post, AP or other sources. I avoid talking about the opinion page, which reliably only spouts far-left talking points. Today’s paper is a wonderful example of inadvertant useful journalism. The top headline is “Walz announces run for 3rd term as governor” juxtaposed with the immediately lower headline–“12 shot in Minneapolis in the span of 12 hours”. So why would anyone possibly vote for this absolute lying piece of scum–what he has done to Minnesota is almost irreparable damage–worse education, worse economy, highest taxes anywhere, far higher crime. But he delivers for the teachers’ and government employees’ unions and the rich people who buy him.
Crime in Minneapolis gets a fair amount of attention, but the stories never connect it to the Democrat policies that have hamstrung police, indeed, demonized them, and that have eliminated true educational opportunity for young minority students, leaving them at the mercy of street ganges. These policies have also greatly increased mental illness and homelessness. And the paper re-runs the national media nonsense about Trump taking over various cities, all run by Dems, that have shown a complete inability to get crime under control. Not one story about how happy the DC residents who live in crime-ridden neighborhoods are about how the federal law enforcement personnel have caused a huge drop in violence.
In the wake of of the Charlie Kirk shooting the paper has run stories expressing concern about “attacks” on the trans cult and the firing of those who celebrated his death, spent more attention on this than on the harm caused by the shooting or on explaining that it is an example of rising far-left violence. And this attack and school shootings continue to be an excuse to call for more gun control to cover up the real cause–leftist indoctrination leading to mental illness.
On a national level, still following the “immigration enforcement is bad” line, although it clearly has lost its punch. Also the attack on tariff policy and its consequences continues, particularly as affects farmers. The paper is clearly hoping to undermine support for Trump among rural communities. Sinking boats clearly bringing fentanyl and other drugs to the US from Venezuela is bad apparently, despite the death of hundreds of thousands of Americans from these drugs. A small story about the continued decline in US students’ math and reading proficiency, with no discussion of how far Minnesota has sunk in this regard or its connection to the focus on looney-left indoctrination instead of real education. Truly hilarious attempts to link Trump to Epstein. As usual, it is all Trump-is-bad, all the time.
The paper continues its bent toward anti-semitism, reflected in the biased nature of its reporting on Israel and Gaza. Hamas and most of the people who live in Gaza support the idea of wiping out Israel and Jews, they are fanatic supporters of that idea. If Israel is to have any chance of surviving, it must eliminate Hamas and prevent any area in which Palestinians live from in any manner having access to weapons.
And on the humorous side, the usual climate change hysteria, including that if it is getting warmer, people might be getting fatter. Also moderately humorous are attempts to portray the Twin Cities and Minnesota as improving and recovering from the epidemic downturns, but buried other stories tell the truth–businesses closing and downsizing, including the Strib closing its printing plant, rampant crime, restaurants closing, taxes way up. Things are getting worse, not better.
