It takes me a while to complete the unpleasant task of catching up on the Star Tribune after I have been out of town for a few days. It is very predictable what the main stories will have been and I am never disappointed by the Strib’s unfailing dedication to the task of demeaning Trump and elevating Democratic lunacy. Here are the broad trends and some specific stories.
While the move to eliminate illegal immigration and deport the worst of the scum that Bidementia allowed into the country has moved off center stage, it still has a robust presence. Not a word on all the crimes committed by these people who are in our country illegally and profiting by it.
The new primary attack by Dems and therefore the Strib, is how bad the reconciliation bill is and what awful things it will be responsible for. I pointed out yesterday that this whole line is premised on a lie–that there was any actual reduction in spending. The federal government is responsible for the Texas floods because Trump has done nothing about climate change and cut funding and staff for weather-related functions. No evidence for that, in fact, warnings were given in plenty of time, just not acted on. Same paper–Trump gets lots of aid to Texas, but California has to wait, supposedly because of politics. Or is it maybe because Texas is well-run state that knows how to efficiently administer aid and California is, well, California.
I will also state again, any job cuts at a federal agency don’t come close to reducing federal employment to even the level it was five years ago. If we were serious about deficit reduction there would be truly massive firings, not something on the order of 1% of employees.
Mental health in Minnesota is jeopardized by Medicaid cuts, rural hospitals are in danger, and on and on. As I said, there are no cuts in general and not only are there no cuts to payments to rural hospitals, in fact a special fund was set up to provide extra money for them.
A top headline story one day was about two black men supposedly being told to sit in the rear of a bus. I am astounded that anyone would publish a story like this, especially so prominently, after almost every similar story has been shown to be a hoax. This story is close to defamatory as there is absolutely no evidence that whatever occurred was motivated by race. But the Strib, like Dems in general, is devoted to stirring up racial strife.
Minnesota is one screwed up state. The federal Department of Justice wants to see our voter rolls and is probing our transgender policies for sports and our state’s hiring policies. Good thing someone thinks the law should be enforced. Keith Ellison is only interested in grandstanding and promoting his non-existent future political career. Minnesota encourages improper voting, including made up voters, illegal immigrants voting, etc. And guess which party engages in these activities. The state has openly endorsed racist, sexist and other discriminatory hiring and promotion practices. So it should be investigated and sued over these practices.
Minneapolis is vying for worst run city in the country. The literal idiots who run the city are just what the voters deserve. And they are trying to run even more businesses and high-income people out of the city, worsening its financial problems, by trying to create an income tax or otherwise take more money for inept city management from those who provide most of its funding and jobs. I hope they suceed, because the sooner the city completely fails, the sooner sanity may be restored.
And even the Strib has to post an article detailing all the city businesses that have had to close recently because of high taxes, regulation and crime. Then the story tries to point a positive picture by talking about how many new businesses open. People, especially corporations, form all kinds of “businesses” for many purposes. Most of those employ no one and do nothing but serve some legal or tax purpose and many are sole proprietorships. No one things the economy in Minneapolis or Minnesota is healthy or growing strongly. And at the back of the story you finally read that actually over the last several years more small businesses have closed than opened.
More tomorrow.
Regarding California: Have they even started building after the January fire?
my understanding is that almost nothing has happened in California
A Star Tribune columnist recently wrote about his experience being carjacked. Staggering.
