This is a very interesting article, not by a conservative author. Because of the whacked pro(re)gressive takeover of academia, social science research is complete garbage in most cases, as its sole purpose is to buttress that loony-tunes ideology. So research into authoritarianism has focussed almost entirely on supposed right wing movements and figures. But anyone who is objective looks around the world today and can see where the authoritarian regimes are and what their political underpinning is–almost exclusively Marxist or socialist or radical Islam. So this author bravely researches and now rights about the prevalence of left-wing authoritarianism and how it is just ignored by those who practice it or sympathize with the underlying ideology.
The authors attempt to define authoritanianism, which I think is very important, particularly because it is often linked to buzz words like “facism” which have no clear meaning. They don’t do it clearly enough. But they do an excellent job of explaining how to understand the supporters of authoritanism, those who are desirous of someone with their views ordering everyone else around and dictating how they think, speak and act; and punishing those who refuse to conform. Sounds like the modern Dem party to me. A leader doesn’t get far without supporters and really they can’t rise to a position of any significance without the boost of those supporters, coupled with some devious and violent tactics.
As he says “The critical question is whether lots of left-wing people want authoritarian leaders to crush their enemies.” Does anyone doubt this is the Dem party line? Look at the polls if you don’t think so, large numbers of Dems support jailing opponents, even killing them. Not so much with Reps. Dems are motivated, as the author points out, by the desire to dominate other groups. He also very usefully points out how “science” has supplanted religion as a source of justification for authoritarian conduct. (Conway Article)
I cannot encourage you more strongly to read this essay and pass it on to your pro(re)gressive friends, acquaintances, family, co-workers, whoever. Maybe that will help remove the blind spot.
