Three Days of the Anti-Strib

By May 1, 2025Commentary3 min read

I simply can’t do this every day, partly because I would just end up repeating myself.  For the last three days the Strib has just done its usual–focus on everything negative about the Trump administration and turn positives into negatives.  For example, ending the unchecked flow illegal immigrants across our borders–a flow that was leading to crime and huge costs imposed on states for housing, health care and other items for these people who have no right to be here.  Instead of celebrating a return to a legal system of entering the country, the media has focused on “oh, isn’t this terrible, we are deporting people”, lying about the criminal nature of most of those deported and searching high and wide for sympathetic stories about wonderful illegal immigrants.  The Strib eagerly joins in this misleading effort and never, not once, mentions the crime and damage inflicted by this group or the costs, including the very high costs in Minnesota.

The second theme is of course that all kinds of bad things are resulting from the attempt to rein in the excessive federal spending that has led to deficits which are hurting every American and Minnesotan by raising inflation and interest rates, crowding out private investment and leading to excessive dependency on government.  Instead of at least attempting some balance by noting the frivolous and unproductive nature of most of the spending which has been cut, much less by explaining the big picture on deficits and debt, the Strib has not one time, not one time, done this.  Instead it is a deluge of story after story about how making some relatively small cut in a program is really painful.

Universities are anxious that they might actually be forced to end their racist, anti-semitic behavior, stop suppressing opinions they don’t agree with, and stop indoctrinating students in whacked fringe ideologies.  As predicted, the first quarter GDP story focuses on the decline due to tariffs, but fails until near the end to note the positive parts of the report.  Feds are slashing funds for rural factories.  The funds were a small amount, but the real question might be: Is there really no part of the US economy that can get by without extensive federal aid?

In other news, the Strib still has failed to state that the Spanish blackout was caused by excessive dependence on “renewable” energy sources.  Here is a clear example of the pro-Dem bias.  When a Democrat won a special election for a state Senate seat, it was on the front page.  A Republican just won one and it is buried several pages deep.  The supposed columnist for rural Minnesota says people out there in the sticks still love Trumps, but implies that they are idiots.  You get the point–you are never going to get a neutral, well-researched article on anything from the Strib’s current publisher, editors and journalists.

Thanks, Kevin, for making me so happy that I live in Iowa. I really appreciate your critiques on what’s going on nationally as well as the land of tampon Tim.
