The Trump administration unfortunately is in turmoil and conflict. What I would view as the smarter people are concerned about the impact of the tariff rollout on our economy. The anti-free trade nuts who seem to think that nothing any other country does can have any negative impact on the US are now pushing lunacy like not just asking for reciprocal tariff and trade barrier policies but insisting that they change their basic tax and other policies. The chaos is bad enough but the lack of clear direction or sense of who is influencing the trade policy is making the administration look bad and giving fuel to the real enemies of a strong economy, the very left-wing Democrat party, which has come to believe that only government spending is good spending.
If Trump himself thought everything was working just fine, he would not be begging the Federal Reserve to lower interest rates. The administration would not be so eager to stress every country that wants to “negotiate” about trade. I am concerned about the economic impact of this mess, but my single biggest concern is that it hurts all Reps and may lead to the whackos getting back in charge. That would be a real disaster. But with Trump’s sense of pride, backtracking will be hard. I am hoping they will find some graceful exit from the craziness and declare victory.
