I normally ignore letters to the editor or comments in the Strib, but one yesterday in response to my column on the epidemic caught my eye as a perfect exemplar of whacked leftist thinking. A person purporting to be a nurse, a Christine Lewis, wrote a letter titled “Please, stay in your lane”. Well Christine if you read this, you might want to look in the mirror. My “lane” is health care research and data, which I know far more about that you ever have or will. My degrees may be in law and business and my entire work career, including actually working as a nurse’s aide, have been in health care. Be curious how much time you spend actually analyzing the readily available research and data on the epidemic. Might want to take a look at my posts starting in early 2020 through the present and see if you could even pretend to understand much less do this.
Christine has the usual sanctimonious and patronizing attitude of elitists who support government dictating to citizens what they should think, say and do. Christine also might want to do a little medical continuing education, they are called respiratory viruses because there primary site of action is in the lungs and upper respiratory tract, not because they are spread, potentially through the air. She apparently is incapable of reading as the point about vaccines is that the Governor lied about their effectiveness when his very own data showed the truth. And she might also want to update her knowledge of flu vaccine effectiveness–it is extremely minimal.
But Christine, you go on living in dream land, it apparently is the only place you can be happy.

At my 50th high school reunion, one of my classmates is a infectious disease expert working in the research department of a major southern California hospital. Error on my part to discuss anything political at a high school reunion. One of his comments was that without the mitigation protocols, masking, shutdowns, vaccines, etc, the US covid death totals would have reached 2m with 200k-400k children. No doubt, he believed his statement guided by his believed superior intellect.
Yet, we all learned a lesson in healthy skepticism through the pandemic – never blindly trust any institution.
