The world is getting hot, so hot that fires are starting all over the place, just spontaneously, and burning up our forests. Or so we are told. Of course the truth is a little less frightening. Because the truth is that by any measure, there are fewer wildfires and fewer acres burned. This is due to what are now obviously stupid policies of preventing natural fires from clearing out undergrowth and old and dead trees. This study details historical fire events and finds nothing unprecedented about recent years’ wildfires and that in fact, there is still a fire “deficit”, i.e. too many areas that have not experienced a fire for too long. Lots of good charts and data in the article. And once again, the druth will not make the hysterics happy. (Nature Article)
