Climate Hysteria, December 28, 2024

By December 27, 2024Commentary2 min read

The underground network of scientists who try to do honest climate research keeps getting nuggets of honesty published, but it is impossible to fight the overwhelming tsunami of lies spread by the subsidy-seeking academic research community and their rich benefactors.  At some point, after we have spent trillions on this nonsense, the house of cards will collapse.  Until then, everyone needs to try to spread some truth to those who otherwise would buy into the hysteric garbage.  A recent paper discusses the carbon cycle on earth, CO2 concentrations, the benefit of CO2 in terms of plant productivity, and the role of humans.  It is an excellent background piece.  (CO2 Coalition Paper)

This paper from the National Bureau of Economic Research further validates the role of increasing CO2 in increasing crop yields.  Better crop yields mean more income for farmers, plenty of food at lower prices for consumers, and particularly in poor countries, means less disease and death from starvation.  (NBER Paper)  Additional research suggests that CO2 has a limited role in temperatures at the Earth’s surface, and that further increases in its miniscule levels in the atmosphere are unlikely to have any impact on those temperatures. (RE Journal)

And watch out for the latest government spending scam to further enrich wealthy pro(re)gressives.  They struck gold with subsidies for solar and wind power plants and now they are mining for diamonds with atmospheric carbon dioxide removal bullshit.  Already billions are being spent on this completely futile waste of money, but they want it to be tens, hundreds of billions.  If those plans were successful, imagine also the unintended consequences if CO2 really were that important in controlling weather and climate.  Do you really want it to be a lot colder?  Cold kills far more people than warmth, both directly and by limiting food production and other activity essential to a good living standard.

You are correct. There is a significant amount of peer reviewed, published research showing that CO2 is not the climate’s control knob, and that its increasing level in the atmosphere is largely beneficial. But that research doesnt support the”Climate Crisis” agenda, so gets ignored by the media and the politicians. A great set of reference papers you found, now added to my collection.

Increases in CO2 have definitely led to increased crop yields.

However, lets not forget the contributions of norman Borlaug and MS Swaminathan who both help develop better varities of grain. Their contributions to agriculture science blow massive holes in Paul Ehrlich’s population bomb predictions.

Also worth noting is the history of human agriculture and food development . Vaclac Smil has written several books on the history of energy / machines and other topic of human development. One of the things he pointed out was circa 1800, it took approximately 20 minutes of human labor to plant, cultivate, harvest, reap etc to produce enough wheat to bake one loaf of bread. By 1900, the human labor time dropped to approximately 10 minutes. Today , thanks to more efficient uses of energy and machines, the human labor to produce one loaf of bread is around 2-3 seconds.

I need to proof read before submitting. The last sentence should read:

Today , thanks to more efficient uses of energy and machines, the human labor to produce sufficient wheat to make one loaf of bread is around 2-3 seconds.
