The Census Bureau issued revised numbers on state population growth and the up and down factors, like immigration, births and deaths. Supposedly the release includes a new and better method for identifying especially illegal immigration. (Census Data) (The links in the release will take you to the detailed tables.) As usual we want to see how the state that the Incompetent Blowhard describes as the most family friendly in the country is doing. In the most recent year, the revised numbers find a population gain from July 2023 to July 2024, of about 40,000 people. But almost 30,000 was international migration to the state, another big chunk is births exceeding deaths, and most of those extra births are also due to international migrants. Domestic migration, Minnesotan’s fleeing to other states resulted in a net loss of 1160 people.
During the period from April 2020 to July 2024 the state supposedly gained about 86,000 residents. But again, we see that people who have lived here get out, with a net 48,000 going to another state. And again, the international migration in, which is driven by Minnesota’s lax enforcement against illegal aliens and our outrageously generous benefits to those same illegals, was 81,000. I do not believe the most recent yearly numbers on domestic migration loss can possibly be accurate given this domestic migration loss over four years. The overall situation is that Minnesota is losing good-earning working families and individuals and attracting those who cost far more than they contribute to the state’s coffers.
And here is your bonus, in our oh so family friendly state. Minnesota has the tenth highest cost of raising a child in the country, and really is very close to being the 7th highest. Very high child care costs, due to excessive regulation and favors to a Dem-contributing union are the major factor. Just one more reason that families are actually bailing on Minnesota as fast as they can. (SA Analysis)
