The climate hysterics think one solution is to electrify everything and have the electricity be from “renewable” sources. There is literally no way that can happen at any reasonable cost, or really at all. Transportation, and cars in particular, because it is historically a heavy user of fossil fuels, have been an early target of the hysterics. But electric vehicles are expensive to buy, operate and repair; not profitable for most car manufacturers and have low resale values. Other than that they are great. Of course, lies are also told about their performance to help boost sales. A new study explores the actual range of an EV, which as you might expect, is far lower than claimed by manufacturers. At 55 miles per hour, they come close to rated efficiency. But at higher speeds over longer distances, as is common in the US and Europe, the efficiency drops by 40% to 50% or even more. So people have to recharge more often. And there are not a lot of charging stations and they aren’t particularly fast. The EV rollout is slowing because reality is becoming well-known, and consumers prefer less expensive, more reliable gas-powered autos. We will see if regulators let them keep buying them.
