The Strib Pimps for Dems Again

By December 22, 2023Commentary2 min read

I posted earlier this week about how the Minneapolis Star Tribune is literally the media arm of the Democrat party and always twists stories to fit what the party wants, in that case population data.  Today we get new jobs data, which was similarly twisted to a positive, about how the state has better jobs growth than the country.  So of course I went to look at the actual data.  And here is what you really find out.  Most of the job growth in Minnesota is government-related.  You have to look carefully to understand this, because a lot of government jobs get hidden in other categories, like education, which is almost all government, or health care, which has a lot of government jobs.  It should first be noted that Minnesota has barely gotten back to pre-epidemic job levels, in contrast to states like Florida and Texas that have seen actual growth over those pre-epidemic numbers.

I looked at the detailed data on year-over-year job changes by category.  Both the monthly summary and the detailed data are found at the links.  Manufacturing jobs were down year-over-year, by 1.7%.  Information was down by 3.6%, financial services by 4%, and professional services by 2%.  On the other hand, government was up by 2.5% and health care and education by 4.8%.  As I noted, the latter is heavily government jobs, and even more heavily paid for by government spending.  So in the real private economy, there is minimal job growth, but government-supported jobs are up significantly.  (Mn. The publisher of the Strib is the former head of Dept of Economic Dev for state of MN. So what do you expect a Walz acolyte to publish, right. Why the paper is trash, expect Democratic slant 100% of time.

    Merry Christmas!
