The Effect of Vaccinations in Minnesota

By April 5, 2021Commentary1 min read

This is a somewhat complex set of animations, thanks again to DD.  What we wanted to show is the effect of vaccination among various age groups on cases, hospitalizations, and deaths.  The state in its infinite stupidity uses different age groups for vaccination reporting than for case reporting, but DD was able to get a reasonable approximation.  The animations start in early fall, before any vaccinations were done.  This set of animations is raw numbers.  Another set will do per capita rates.   You will notice in the hospitalization animation especially that as immunization rates among the elderly rise, the hospitalization curve by age flattens, which does suggest an impact of vaccination on disease severity, if not actual infections.  Looking at deaths is complicated by the state’s goofy date of report and the death dumps.
